I started my violin-making career at the age of 18. In 1983 I graduated from the two year violin making school in Tianjin, China. I then became a maker in a violin shop in Tianjin. During the 6 years I worked in Tianjin I won third place at the Violin-Making Competition in China for one of my cellos.

In 1989, I was picked from many applicants to join the Violin-Making Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Here I studied with Professor Quan Zheng and was asked to become a teacher in the Department after I graduated.

In 1996, I started working for Morey’s Music Inc., String Department, where I am currently their Master Luthier. In 2003 he entered the 10th “Antonio Stradivari” International Luthiers Competition in Cremona Italy, where I placed 11th for his violin. At the 2nd International Violin-Making Festival and Competition of “Venceslav Metelka” in 2004, I won a silver metal for my violin. I also won first place for the “Best Scroll and Peg Box Carving Contest” held during this same competition. In the Fall of 2004 I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for my violin at the Violin Society of America competition held in Portland Oregon, U.S.A.. In 2006 I entered the 11th “Antonio Stradivari” International Luthiers Competition in Cremona Italy, where I received Honorable Mention (Menzione d’onore) for my viola. In the Fall of 2006 I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for my violin at the Violin Society of America competition held in Baltimore, U.S.A.. In the Winter of 2016 I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for my violin at the Violin Society of America competition held in Cleverland, U.S.A.In the Winter of 2018 I was awarded a Certificate of Merit for my violin at the Violin Society of America competition held in Cleverland, U.S.A..again.
I am a guest professor of Shen Yang Conservatory of Music since 2005.
