Following studying viola and double bass at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, John began working in the workshop of Lance Scott Violins in Brisbane. In 1993 he commenced his studies at the Newark School of Violin Making, graduating with Distinction in 1996. He established his own workshop in Brisbane where he makes violins, violas and cellos, as well as repairs and restoration and dealing in new and antique instruments and bows.

John has also studied bow making with some of the world’s finest bow makers and enjoys making and restoring bows.
